As HooksGURU pointed out, it has a PvP role, and lots of PvPers use it.īut compared to certain other ships like the FdL its not as good for pure PvP. Mainly, it provides a solid foundation for building a credit stream. It is the absolute turning point for your options in the more distant future. The same thing I say to every single person who is fighting to find themselves in Elite Dangerous own an Asp. No, Clipper has solid longevity as a multi-role spec, as well as an excellent bounty hunter/pirate craft. It is out classed in almost every aspect IMO, and currently isn't the most viable option for the loadout expense required for combat. You CAN'T use anything other than Gimballed weapons and expect to target track in the Clipper, you may hit 30% of moving targets, and that is a low ratio for PVP. When I was using the Clipper, I ran Gimballed Pulse on the external hardpoints, and Gimballed Cannons at the center-most hardpoints. The ship itself handles well, but with it's lack of strength I can't see it ever being effective in combat - not enough to make it more popular than the Python or FDL.The Clipper isn't great for PvP. The gun placement was horrific - the far guns can't converge well enough to hunt smaller targets and had to be Turreted, a grave waste of DPS. I even tried flying one in-game, and still couldn't understand the appeal. And I just couldn't do it - all I ended up with was a very expensive trading ship that had very weak shields and a horrible vulnerable powerplant. I spent an hour today tinkering with an Imperial Clipper trying to match the Python, and after failing at that trying to match a stock FDL. It's capable of carrying a large cargo or demolishing an Elite Anaconda without losing a ring of shields, and it's my benchmark. The whole machine cost 110 million CR to build. I have a top speed of 440 MS and my Agility is about what you'd get from a Viper MKIV. It's fully modded for combat with about 950 shields with four SCBs, 3X Large guns and 2X Medium. People swear by them, especially for Bounty Hunting and other Combat missions. This ship has a very dedicated and loyal fanbase.
